Dengue cases surge in Dhaka

The total number of dengue cases reported this year in Bangladesh has crossed 9600 till Friday. It is feared that dengue cases may surpass the record level of the last two decades in the next few days.

The hospitals in Dhaka are struggling to accommodate the rush of dengue patients arriving for treatment.

According to official sources, eight people have died due to dengue though the number of death could be much higher going by reports from various parts of the country.

Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had given necessary directives to control the dengue outbreak. He said a monitoring cell had been formed to control the situation. Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC)  announced that 52 centres will provide free dengue testing facility to people from Monday.
