Udaipur : In a daring daylight robbery, armed miscreants looted 19 lakh 72 thousand rupees from a branch of Punjab National Bank located in the Madri Industrial Area (MIA) under the Pratap Nagar police station in the city on Monday afternoon. The robbers were armed with pistols and fired in the air. They held the staff hostage on gunpoint, took their mobiles before decamping with the cash. Since the bank is situated on the Udaipur-Ahmedabad National Highway, the police has set up several check points and ordered intense searching of vehicles.
The entire loot episode has been caught on the camera where five masked men are seen barging inside the bank around 1.40 pm. One of them fired in the air to scare the staff and asked them for the keys of the safe. When the staff didnt act, one of them fired again and took the keys from the cashier. The robbers took away the cash kept at the front counter while the staff did not let them know that there was some 14 lakh rupees inside. It took less than a minute for the robbers to snatch the mobile phones and decamp with the cash. Later, the branch manager informed the police about the robbery
A police team led by SP KailashChandra Bishnoi, additional SP Gopal Swaroop Mewara, DySP Rajiv Joshi, PratapNagar SHO Vivek Singh immediately reached the bank and launched a probe. The men were masked and its a challenge for the police to find out their identities, however, sketches are being prepared as per the information provided by the bank employees who saw them. Considering that the robbers are carrying pistols, armed policemen have been deployed at various locations to nab them.
