Book on Vice President Venkaiah Naidu’s 2 years in office to be released 

Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu was born on 1st July 1949 in Chavatpalem, a small village in Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh. He rose in public life to finally become the Vice President of the nation in 2017.  

A book chronicling the Vice President’s two years in office-‘ Listening, Learning and Leading’- has been prepared by the Bureau of Outreach and Communications of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. 

It will be released by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the presence of the Vice President and I and B minister Prakash Javadekar at the Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai on Sunday. 

Son of Rangaiah Naidu and Ramanamma, he lost his mother when he was just 15 months old. 

He did his schooling in Zilla Parishad High School in Buchireddypalem and took his bachelor’s degree from VR college in Nellore before going on to study law at Andhra University college of Law at Visakhapatnam.

Inspired by Jayaprakash Narayan’s ideals, he became convener of the Chhatra Sangharsh Samiti in Andhra Pradesh in 1974.

His commitment to the cause of freedom and democracy saw him plunge into the protest movement against the emergency. He was also sent to jail for 17 months between 1975 and 1977 for his participation in the movement

He entered electoral politics for the first time when he contested assembly polls from Udayagiri in Nellore district winning it in 1978 and again in 1983.

He was leader of the BJP legislative party in Andhra Pradesh for 5 years from 1980 to 1985 and rose through the party ranks to become national general Secretary and President of the party between 2002 and 2004.

He was also elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka thrice in 1998, 2004 and 2010 and from Rajasthan in 2016.

Mr. Naidu served as Union Minister for Rural Development in the Vajpayee government between 2000 and 2002 and as Union Minister for Urban development, Housing and Poverty Alleviation in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government between 2014 to 2017 heralding the realisation of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas during both tenures. 

He reached the pinnacle of his journey in public life when he was elected as the 13th Vice President of India on August 5 2017. 

In the two years in office since then, he has set a blistering pace attending over 330 public engagements across the nation and visiting 19 other countries. 

As vice president ,Venkaiah Naidu has also forayed far and wide outside the country to improve  ties between India and the rest of the world.He was the first Vice President to visit Panama, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Malta. 

He was the first Indian to be conferred the doctor honoris causa by the UN supported University for Peace in Costa Rica .He also participated in the armistice centenary in Paris along with prominent world leaders.

As Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, he presided over one of the most productive sessions of the House. 

A total of 32 bills were passed in the 249th session of the Rajya Sabha, the best for any session in the last 17 years. 

In a first of its kind ,he also presented a report to the people on the functioning of the Rajya Sabha from 2014 to 2019.

On this occasion, Information and Broadcasting Ministry is organising a function in Chennai tomorrow,  where a coffee table book titled ” Listening, Learning & Leading,” will be released by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in the presence of Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and the Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar. 

The book captures the glimpses of the Vice President’s 330 public engagements across the country in the last two years. 

It details his important diplomatic engagements including his visits to 19 countries across 4 continents. The book also showcases the Vice President’s feat as the Rajya Sabha Chairman in enhancing its effectiveness and promoting its efficiency.

I&B Secretary Amit Khare also said that this coffee table book has been published by I&B Ministry and the first copy will be presented to Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.
