BJP slams Congress on Mallya issue

In an all-out attack against the Congress, the BJP on Thursday alleged that the previous UPA government had given a “sweet deal” to the beleaguered Kingfisher Airlines to keep it afloat and suggested that the airline was perhaps owned by the Gandhi family. UNion minister Piyush Goyal released a video which shows former PM Manmohan Singh stressing on the need to help cashg strapped Kingfisher Airlines.

BJP leader further accused the former PM, congress leaders and then civil Aviation minster of being involved in the entire case.

BJP has now demanded that Rahul Gandhi should answer what were the relations between his family and Mallya and why were the rules kept at bay while authorising loans for the airlines.

Attacking Rahul Gandhi at a press meet, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra, showing a purported confessional statement of a hawala trader, alleged that the Congress chief had links with a shell company.

He claimed that Rahul Gandhi was on the backfoot in the case of Kingfisher Airlines and its promoter Vijay Mallya as well as the entire Gandhi family travelled on the airline and their travel was upgraded to business class for free.

Meanwhile, Congress president Rahul Gandhi stepped up the attack on finance minister Arun Jaitley and questioned as to why he was allowed to flee the country and why were the agencies not sounded when it was evident that Mallya can run away. The centre has, however, dismissed it as allegations mounted in frustration.

Earlier, Vijay Mallya had claimed in London that he had met Jaitley before fleeing to the UK. Refuting Mallya’s claim, Jaitley had said he had never given him an appointment since 2014, but he used his privilege as a Member of Parliament to accost him once in Parliament.
