Athletes from Bangladesh will be competing in 25 games out of the 26 for which sports-persons from 7 South Asian nations will vie for medals.
In the 2016 South Asian Games hosted by India, Bangladesh had attained the fifth position with four gold, fifteen silver and fifty six bronze medals.
The four gold medals included two in swimming, one in weightlifting and one in shooting.
Swimmer Mahfuza Khatun Shila, who won two gold medals in the last South Asian Games at Guwahati in 2016, is leading the Bangladeshi contingent in the opening ceremony.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel of Bangladesh on Thursday announced an award of Tk 6 lakh for each athlete winning gold medal at the 13th South Asian games at Nepal.
Silver medalists will get Tk 3 lakh while bronze medalist will be awarded Tk 1 lakh by the government of Bangladesh.
Nepal is hosting the regional sporting extravaganza for the third time. Events will take place in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Janakpur.
Earlier, Nepal had hosted the first South Asian Federation Games in 1984 and again in 1999.
More than 5,000 delegates, including 2,715 athletes from 7 south Asian Countries are participating in the regional meet that features 26 sports disciplines.
