The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has directed its officials to ensure that religious ceremonies are held indoors on this occasion to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in the country.
The police has suggested that visitors may enter the Imambaras in small groups to ensure social distancing in view of the continuing Corona pandemic, reports the official news agency BSS.
The DMP Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam instructed the police to not to allow anybody to enter the function venue without wearing mask.
The holy Ashura, known as Muharram, is falling on August 30.
In the meanwhile, the government has said that the COVID-19 situation in Bangladesh is not conducive for reopening of schools in September.
Secretary, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Akram Al-Hossain told the media on Sunday that considering the large number of corona positive cases being reported even now, it is better not to put children at risk by opening schools.
Educational Institutions in Bangladesh are closed since March 17 after the first Corona Positive case in Bangladesh was reported on March 8.
As per the latest figures put out by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday, the death toll due to Coronavirus in Bangladesh has gone up to 3941.
The number of coronavirus infection stands at 2.94 lakh with recovery rate climbing up to 60.79 percent.
