Government has stepped up efforts to control dengue in the country. According to the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA), a total of 368,200 NS1 test kits were imported between July 31 to August 3. Number of beds for dengue patients in various hospitals in Dhaka have also been increased to accommodate new patients.
In the meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday conducted search at the offices of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) to investigate allegations of corruption in the import of insecticide.
The opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Sunday alleged that the government is now trying to import ‘banned’ mosquito-killing medicines after procuring ineffective insecticides. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the government has failed to deal with the dengue outbreak.
