Udaipur : Atleast ten people in a marriage party died and over a dozen seriously hurt after they were crushed by a truck near Ramdeoji village near Ambavli on the NH 113 under Chhoti Sadri police station limit of Pratapgarh district on Monday night. The incident took place around 9 pm when a large marriage party ‘bindoli’ procession was walking on the highway.
An overspeeding truck lost control and rammed into the baraat procession. Sources claimed the marriage was of a boy from Gadoliya Luhar community and most of the victims too were presumably from the same community. Pratapgarh SP Anil Kumar said exact number of deceased was known but atleast 8 are feared dead while the number of hurt could be around 17.
People were merry making and dancing on the roads when suddenly a truck ran over the guests and dragged them to many meters. Authorities including the SDM, ambulances and police teams from surrounding stations rushed to the spot however, darkness hampered the rescue operation. Exact number of people killed could not be confirmed till the news going to print. Many of the injured were taken to Chhoti Sadri hospital while the serious cases were referred to the district hospital, sources claimed. Authorities and leaders of various parties were reported to reach the hospital to take stock of the situation.
