Amit Shah takes charge as Union Home Minister

He is holding his first meeting as we speak. Both Ministers of state, Home secretary as well as other top officials are attending. One of the first challenges before the new Home Minister will be to create an atmosphere conducive for holding assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Symbolically, before taking charge, Amit Shah met his predecessor Rajnath Singh at his residence.

In a tweet message, Amit Shah said: Today I took over as India’s Home Minister. I express my gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for having reposed trust in me. The nation’s security as well as welfare of citizens is the topmost priority of the Modi Government. I would make every possible effort to fulfill this under PM Modi ji’s leadership.

Dubbed a modern-day Chanakya and master strategist, Amit Shah has strongly supported the expansion of National Register of Citizens in different parts of the country to identify and expel illegal immigrants.
