Amazon Working on New Smartphone Lineup

Amazon is reportedly working on a new smartphone lineup under the codename “Ice”, which is set to be the successors to the poorly received Fire phone from 2014.

The main difference between the Fire series of phones and tablets and the Ice series, is that the latter would come with Google’s suite of apps such as Gmail and Google Play. The news comes from Gadgets 360’s two sources, one of whom has reportedly already used a test version of the handset.

The device does not currently support Amazon’s digital assistant Alexa, though the source noted that this could still be added at a later date.

In terms of specs, he aforementioned test unit is said to house a 5.2- to 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 435 chip, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage space.

The device is also believed to employ a 13 MP rear camera and rear fingerprint scanner, running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It’s tipped to launch for approximately $93.

The Google Play Support could potentially help the Ice series to become a success, however not including Alexa support might be a bad idea. Sources say the phone could go on sale in India by the end of year, but we don’t know anything regarding an international release.
