Brazil has given indications of refusing G-7 aid to fight Amazon Forest Fire. Foreign minister Ernesto Araujo has said a new initiative is not needed, because international mechanisms are in place to fight deforestation. A record number of fires are burning in Brazil, mostly in the Amazon, according to the country’s space research agency, Inpe.
President Macron last week described the fires as an “international crisis”.
Meanwhile, Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has accused France of treating Brazil like a colony.
Under pressure from the international community to save a crucial area for maintaining a stable global climate, Bolsonaro finally deployed on Sunday two C-130 Hercules aircraft to douse the fires.
