Agitated mob gives BJP MP a harrowing time, Jaiswal escapes lynching

Patna: The sitting BJP MP, Sanjay Jaiswal, on Sunday evening was rescued by the police at a booth in Narkatiyaganj. He was gheraoed by hundreds of an armed mob after Jaiswal’s security guard fired in the air to disperse them. The guard has been detained.
Jaiswal alleged, there was an attempt on his life by a group of a particular community. District magistrate and SP of Bettiah are camping at the booth.
 
Meanwhile, the chief election officer H R Sriniwas Rao announced an ex-gratia of Rs 15 lakhs to Shivendra Kumar, presiding officer of polling booth no 275 at Madhavpur village under Katsari block of Sheohar Lok Sabha constituency. A home guard jawan has been detained.
 
Authorities said that the jawan was loafng cartridges in the rifle, when it misfired and hit the presiding officer. Shivendra was a teacher in a school at Wazitpur in Sitamarhi district.
 
Officers and employees m of the state election office observed two minutes silence in the memory of Shivendra.
 
In another incident, a middle aged voter, Vishwanat Shah died at a polling booth no 260 under Piprakothi block in Motihari. He developed chest pain after casting his vote and complained to his relatives. Before they could come to his aid and he collapsed.
