Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has admitted that there are 40 terrorist groups operating in the country.
Addressing a reception in Washington which was hosted by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Chairperson of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus, Imran Khan said successive pakistani governments did not tell the truth to the United States.
He said, “There were 40 different militant groups operating within Pakistan. So Pakistan went through a period where people like us were worried about could we survive it. So while the US expected us to do more and help the US win the war, Pakistan at that time was fighting for its own existence.”
He also made the startling revelation that his country still has around 30,000 to 40,000 militants who have been trained and have fought in Afghanistan or Kashmir. He added that Pakistan was trying its best to get the Taliban on the table to start a dialogue.
