Udaipur : The Mohanlal Sukhadia University will be hosting South Asian Universities Youth Festival, SAUFEST, a reputed International youth festival next week in which students from more than eight countries will participate. The 8th South Asian Universities Festival- 2015 will be held here in Udaipur from March 7 onwards. The theme of the five day festival is South Asian Cultural Fusion and the grand event will see participation from more than 300 students of more than 75 universities from all over the region. The festival is being sponsored and powered by Pacific University, Udaipur. A massive march past by the youth participants, Khadi fashion show and cultural programs will be major attraction of the event.
“ The festival aims to propagate the concept of strengthening cultural diversities by exhibiting their cultural prowess on a common platform. It is in line with the active collaboration and mutual assistance amongst South Asian Countries in educational, social, cultural, skill development and entrepreneurship” said Prof. I.V Trivedi, the V-C of the host university. The activities held during the SAUFEST include cultural events, martial arts, exhibitions, intellectual discourses, young artists’ camps, seminars and adventure programs. Student and delegates from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka would be participating, Prof Trivedi said.
“ SAUFEST is one of the largest and most diverse international youth events in the region. Since its inception in 2007 over 19,000 young people have been involved and this spring the streets and venues of Udaipur will come alive once again as young people from the ages of 18 to 26 showcase the very best in the youth arts selected from the Indian and the South Asian Universities” said Dr Pradeep Trikha, convenor of the event. “The organisers aim to inculcate the values of regional cultural integration, communal harmony, love, peace and development amongst the youth of the region. We believe that this is done best by empowering our young, encouraging community involvement, and building relations and common ground between the various regional communities. This will enhance their confidence and understanding that they have a voice and power to change their world for the better” said Prof D.S. Chundawat, director SAUFEST.The festival will be the celebration of performances, exhibitions and showcases of incredible youth work from South Asian nations. The idea of organizing SAUFEST was initiated by the AIU, New Delhi to encourage the future generations of youth from the South Asian Countries to come on common platform for sharing views, experiences, innovations and common ideas so that a common agenda in taking the future regional challenges can be taken up. Furthermore, the role of SAUFEST is to ensure unity for peace, harmony and brotherhood amongst the people of the south Asian region.
