Visitors enjoy water sports events in Udaipur Lake Festival

lake-festival-18-november-2016-78Udaipur : Tourists and residents of the city especially youths and children have got a reason to rejoice with Rajasthan Tourism and the district administration organizing the three days spanned Lake Festival here.  Hundreds of people thronged along the famous Fateh Sagar lakeside on the first day of the festival here on Friday. The event is being held in association with the Municipal Corporation and Urban Improvement Trust.

lake-festival-18-november-2016-69Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria, Minister of Forest Rajkumar Rinwah, Chairperson of Rajasthan River Basin and Water Resources Planning Authority Sriram Vedire inaugurated the festival by flagging off water sports events like Kayaking, Canoeing, Dragon Boat and Canoe Polo. Speaking on the occasion Kataria said a water sports academy is proposed for Udaipur that will go a long way to help Udaipur emerge not just as a tourist destination but as a water sports destination in the country. In his address Vedire said significant works have been completed under Mukhyamantri Jal Swawlamban Yojana and other states are following the Rajasthan model in the area of rain water conservation.

lake-festival-18-november-2016-7On the occasion activists were felicitated for their persistent efforts to keep the lakes clean. Haji Sardar Mohammad, Anil Mehta, NandKishore Sharma, Mahesh Sharma, Kamlesh Purohit, Tej Shankar Paliwal etc were among those to be felicitated. In the evening, audience were spell bound by the live cultural program given by Jaipur Beats Band. People also were delighted to visit an exhibition at the lakeside displaying various handicraft products. Visitors also were informed of the tasks undertaken under the Smart City project specially achievements in the field of solar energy. ‘Marathon by night’ would be the attraction on Saturday, a program being held in association with Round Table India, an NGO.
