Udaipur : The death of a 30 year old tribal woman after delivering her thirteenth child, recently at Udaipur general hospital has come as a great shock for the medical department which has constituted a committee now for a detailed probe in the case. Despite of all the efforts and incentives by the government for counseling under the family planning programmes, such an incident happening without getting noticed by the authorities has posed a serious question before the department.
Thirty year old Sharda Meena wife of Vesat Meena, resident of Bhojata fala wadi had been admitted at a nearby health center in Dungarpur district on November 1. The authorities and medical staff attending her were told to be unknown that it was her thirteenth delivery and only eight children had survived. She delivered her ninth baby, a healthy boy on November 5 but due to excessive bleeding, complications occured and the patient was reffered to Udaipur. Sharda died at the Janana hospital here the same day. The authorities came to know about the incident on Monday when one of the ANM went to the primary health center for completing formalities for issuing death certificate. The incharge of the primary health center reported the matter at the review meeting held next day which was taken upon seriously. It is the failure of concerned staff in counselling the woman who had been pregnant 12 times earlier while her death after child birth is even more serious, said a medical officer. ” A committee has been constituted which will find out who were the people responsible for negligence and disciplinary action will be taken” he said.
