Udaipur : Soldiers of the Battle-Axe division of the Indian Army set off for a motorcycle rally under the Desert Safari campaign to spread awareness against social evils and inspire youth to join the defense forces. “Save the girl child” and “Connecting people to its Army” is the punchline given to the campaign.
The rally having more than 28 officers and representatives of the junior commission started off from the Army cantonment area here on Thursday morning. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar of Maharana Mewar Charitable Trust and number of officers were present on the occasion to flag off the rally. The bikers would undertake a journey of 1600 kilometers from Udaipur to Jaisalmer via Jodhpur. The desert safari campaign has been initiated by the soldiers to spread awareness specially among the rural population of the state on female foeticide and women empowerment. The soldiers would also meet school children during the rally and inspire them to join the armed forces. They would be informed of the recruitment procedure and opportunities on joining defense. The rally members would also travel up to the villages adjoining the international border in Jaisalmer district to instill patriotism among the common. The rally would culminate on February 16 at Jodhpur, said RP Sharma, an officer.
