RPS officer duped on false promises of marriage, case registered

Udaipur : In an incident that came as a shock even for the police department, father of a lady police officer who is presently posted in Udaipur, has lodged a complaint of fraud and harassment against a Haryana based man and his family members. Vinod Mittal, the  67-year-old resident of Chidawa in Jhunjhunu and father of DySP Divya Mittal claimed that one Prateek Bansal resident of Anaaj mandi area in Hisar of Haryana took undue advantage of his daughter for months by living together like husband and wife but when asked to make the relation public, he and his family started making dowry demands.

“ We gave a written complaint to the Superintendent of Police in Hisar last month, but no case has been lodged owing to their high influence” Mittal said.  The lady officer is presently placed as a Deputy SP in the excise department here. Divya had met Prateek through internet in June 2014 and the duo met for the first time three months later in Udaipur. After enquiring about Prateek’s family background, Vinod Mittal had agreed to their marriage. Prateek asked Divya to come to Gudgaon so that his mother Krishna Devi could meet and approve her. Divya and her father stayed in Delhi for three days but Prateek didn’t take them to meet his mother, on the contrary he took Divya to a nearby temple and performed a secret marriage. He assured her that once he secured a job in Udaipur, he would make their marriage public in a grand ceremony.

Divya believed in his words and they lived at his rented house in Delhi for some days. They also stayed together in Udaipur, Bharatpur, Mathura and other places during various trips. But gradually Prateek and his family started making demand of 50 lakh rupees cash, a grand wedding reception in Hisar and a luxury car. “ Prateek stopped taking Divya’s call February onwards and when she spoke to his mother once, the lady abused her” held the plaint. The officer and her father went to meet the Bansal’s in Hisar and they assured to perform the marriage soon however, they failed the commitment. The officer had been in a state of depression after the incident. The case has been registered by the Mahila Thana, Sukher and the investigation would soon begin, police said.
