Officer swept away by swollen river in Banswara

Udaipur : An administrative officer is feared dead after being swept away today in a swollen river along with his jeep and driver while crossing a bridge in Banswara. The driver was rescued but Sub-Divisional Officer (Kushalgarh) Rameshwar Meena is missing, police said.

“The officer is feared dead. 20 SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) jawans and six divers are involved in the rescue operation,” SHO of Kalinjara police station Ravindra Singh said.

Meena was on his way to Kushalgarh from Banswara in the morning. “They were crossing a bridge in Kalinjara area when a sudden flow of water in the river washed them away,” police said.

The driver Ashok was rescued at a distance of nearly one km. The vehicle was also spotted but the officer is still missing and the rescue operation is on, the SHO said. Banswara district collector Bhagwati Prasad said Meena was around 59 years old and was due to retire after a few months.
