Udaipur : Tension and grief prevailed at a major power plant in Chanderiya of Chittorgarh district on Monday when a labourer died after getting entangled in the conveyor belt. Pankaj Kharol, a 20-year-old youth and resident of Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh had been working here at the Birla power plant as a labourer for one and a half month. On Monday at around 9 AM, while working Pankaj’s hand got stuck inside the moving conveyor belt used for transporting coal in the plant.
Before anyone could reach for help, the victims body was dragged into the belt and crushed. Several workers gathered on the spot and police was called. “Pankaj died on the spot as his body got entangled in the belt of the raw material handling system. He was engaged by a job contractor who has announced 17.5 lakh rupees to be given to the aggrieved family as compensation” said Vijay Shankar Sharma, the SHO at Chanderiya police station. Radhey Shyam Kharol, the victim’s father who worked in a transport firm here, took the dead body after postmortem to their native place.
