Udaipur : Hindu Jagran Manch, a local organization standing against the western ways of life on Friday took strong objection to the holding of a “Tomatina Holi Fest” where tonnes of tomatoes would be hurled by thousands of revelers which has already resulted in rocketing the prices of tomatoes in the tourist city. The event is scheduled for March 13 in a garden here. “ Holding Tomatina festival in Udaipur is a case of moral outrage specially in a state where farmers have been committing suicides due to crop failures and poverty. Food security is a major issue in the country and hence the wastage of hundreds of tonnes of tomatoes is not acceptable to us” Devendra Singh Chundawat, the district co-ordinator of Hindu Jagran manch said. Holi is traditionally played with dry colours and there is no sense in celebrating the festival by hurling tomatoes at one other specially at a time when thousands of people are suffering from malnutrition and hunger, the activists said. The group met the SP and the ADM city and gave a memorandum to prevent the event from happening. “ If they still permit the event company to hold the program, we will resort to mass protest” the members warned.
