This year, CLAT was of easy to moderate level as per the applicants. CLAT 2017 was conducted for 2 hours’ time on May 14, 2017 between 3 PM to 5PM. The initial reactions of candidates were such that English section was quite easy whereas Legal Aptitude section turned out to be the toughest.
There were 200 objective type questions spread over 5 sections namely, Legal Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, English Comprehension, Elementary Mathematics and General Knowledge.
Arunima Bisht took CLAT exam for the first time and as per her observation, “The paper was moderate. For me, English, Maths and GK were the easiest sections while reasoning and legal aptitude was a little more difficult.” Confirming the claim, another applicant Shanvi Aggarwal says, “Legal aptitude was toughest. I found English easy with the section mainly comprising cloze tests, jumbled words and fewer antonyms and synonyms. Maths was also moderate, with questions coming from algebra, integers, percentage, profit and loss.”
Apart from that Reasoning section was also easy. CLAT applicant Stuti said, “Reasoning had a good set of questions while English was undoubtedly the easiest. Maths was also quite easy with most of the questions coming from the Class 10 level.”
Out of all the sections, Legal Aptitude unsettled the candidates. There are claims that at least 10-15 questions were asked on latin phrases or legal maxims. Questions related to legal awareness were less in number.
Farah also took CLAT 2017 said, “I think legal aptitude was toughest but English more than made up for it. There was only one passage and fill in the blanks, choosing the similar sentence and missing words questions were quite easy.”
Candidates were baffled by the questions thrown in General Knowledge section. The questions were based on the latest events, in-depth questions were put up. Those who would have prepared well must have found it easy, however, many of them found it as a shocker.
