Udaipur : Five children including 4 girls died after they were bogged down in a wide hole adjoining the village pond in Obari under the Sagwada police station of Dungerpur district on Wednesday night. The children were cousins and had left their houses to buy dates to eat. When they didn’t return after long time, the family members set out on a search and saw their bodies near the pond.
Pall of gloom descended the village and everyone was shocked as the rescue team pulled out bodies one after the other late night. According to the police, the victims were identified as Roshan (17) and Mamta (7)both children of Harish Damor, their cousins Anjali (11) Navya (6) daughters of Shivlal and Kali (8)do Raju Dodiyar. They left their homes around 4pm to buy dates but didn’t return even after night fall. When their parents set out to search them, they saw the children’s clothes near the village pond at Vadikhand goddess temple.
The kids had entered the water hole to play but unfortunately got stuck in the quagmire, police said. Large number of people gathered around the area and the police was called. Later the rescue team with the help of villagers drew out the bodies. The cremation was held on Thursday.
