Udaipur : Fatehnagar, a small town in the district, observed a bandh on Friday that was called by Shivsena activists to express their discontentment against improper police action on a rape incident that took place in November. Party activists hindered traffic and asked businesses to pull down shutters. Protestors gathered at various streets and shouted slogans demanding justice for the rape victim. “A woman who was going to her parents home got down at the bus stand here past midnight to change bus. An on-duty cop took advantage of the situation and abused her” said AmarSingh Bundela , the Shivsena head of the division. Later Bherusingh Jat, a homeguard who spotted the victim in a vulnerable condition, reported the matter to the police station.
Though a case was lodged by the victim, however, the cops marked a final report in the case claiming the complaint to be a false one. The Shivsena activists also held that instead of conducting an impartial probe, the police instead, tried to influence and threaten a Paan wala who had been one of the witness of the incident. The homeguard who had helped the victim by reporting the case was suspended for negligence in duty. Shivsena activists would be meeting the members of the State Woman Commission on Saturday and give a memorandum to the CM for an impartial probe. If there is no progress in a month, we will hold a Fatkar rally from bus stand to Fatehnagar police station on February 13, Bundela informed.
