Cops rescue property dealer tied up by villagers

Udaipur : A property dealer had to face the wrath of villagers here who tied him up with a pole for two hours over  a property row. The victim was freed only after the police team reached to his rescue and convinced the villagers to release him after assuring fair investigation in the case. The villagers even staged a demonstration against the police alleging them for favoring the influential property mafias in the area whom they said were habitual of cheating the uneducated and poor tribal community for their precious land assets.

The incident took place at Balicha village here on Wednesday when one Kamal Singh, a property dealer was caught by the villagers who dragged him to the main choraha and tied him with a pole. Kamal Singh resident of Sector 14 had reportedly purchased several bheegas of land at Balicha, Devali and Kaya villages from the poor tribal people in the area but he wasn’t prompt in making payments, villagers claimed. One year ago Kamal had purchased a bheega land from one Naru Gameti for 65 lakh rupees but had only made a part payment of 12.5 lakh rupees. For the balance payment he had given post dated cheques to the poor man but later made a stop payment for the same.

Naru who had even executed the registry documents had been for a year demanding for the balance payment but Kamal had been intentionally avoiding him. A police complaint was also lodged by Naru at the Goverdhan Vilas police station but Kamal with his approach with the ruling party leaders, managed the cops to submit a negative report, Naru claimed. Other people too had similar complaints with Kamal. On Wednesday when Kamal came to the village allegedly to take possession over Naru’s land, the villagers held him and kept him tied him with a post for two hours. The Goverdhan Vilas police reached the area and convinced the infuriated people to let him free. Villagers went to the police station where they even put some serious allegations against few officers for accepting bribe and thus protecting the land mafias who are cheating the poor tribals of their land. “ Cross cases have been lodged by people at both sides. Naru Gameti has lodged a complaint of cheating against Kamal for not making timely payment for the land deal while Kamal has complained against Naru for physical abuse” said Vardichand, SHO Goverdhan Vilas police station.
