Coin minting factory busted in Udaipur

Udaipur : In the basement of a house at Ghanerao-ki-Ghati inside the walled city area, a coin minting factory was busted here on Friday. Police has arrested one person Lalit so Gopal Soni who was part of the group which was counterfeiting since July last and  had floated coins worth more than 5 lakh rupees in the market. “ They have been working for over 10 months and the coins had been circulated to Ajmer, Pali, Chittorgarh, Jodhpur and many cities and therefore the amount may be even much higher which would be known only when the mastermind is caught” Udaipur SP Rajendra Prasad Goyal said.

The accused used steel and mixed metal to mint coins. Most of the coins were supplied to toll booths, grocery stores, petrol pumps, vegetable vendors who always need small change. Police is in hunt for the mastermind Shivlal Soni, a resident of Bhilwara who invested a sum of Rs 2 Lakh to purchase the coin minting machine from Rajkot. Lalit had invested 95 thousand rupees in the business. Another man Saurav Jain who is a student, too is wanted in the case who aided these men in circulating the coin in the market.

“We have seized a hydraulic power machine which weighs around 11 ton and 40 coins of 5 rupee denomination from a house. These people minted coins here and perhaps  conspired with employees of toll plazas who bought these coins from them” Rajendra Jain, SHO Ghantaghar police station said. Lalit and Shivlal were into jewelry making and made gold and silver coins used for rituals. Later they thought of counterfeiting money, police said.
