Udaipur : A blast took place inside a polling station in Khankad gram panchayat of Jhadol Phalasia tehsil on Friday night, hours ahead of polling in the area on Saturday. The polling station is housed in a government school building where three employees busy with the preparations were injured in the explosion. Tension gripped in the area as polling was conducted amidst tight security with some 200 guards deployed in the village. Collector Ashutosh A.T.Pednekar, SP Ajaypal Lamba and senior officials were at the school to supervise the poll proceedings on Saturday which concluded peacefully. Though the attackers were not identified, however police strongly suspect it to be caused by one Dharmilal, the husband of an Anganbadi worker who is a candidate for Sarpanch post. Dharmilal had contested last assembly elections backed by Kirodilal Meena but joined congress party later on after losing election. His wife Radha is a congress supported candidate for the sarpanch post.

The incident took place on Friday night when some unidentified people threw explosive at the polling station. The detonator blew off the tin roof of the building with a loud noise injuring three employees Mukesh Kumar Mittal, Rajkumar and Bhagwandas who were on election duty. The noise was heard as far as one kilometer, sources said. Deputy SP Ganpatlal, SHO Nanalal Salvi of Jhadol police station and SDM Trilok Singh Meena reached with the rescue team. The injured were taken to the nearest primary health center. One of the victim Mukesh Kumar was referred to Udaipur whose condition was told to be serious. According to the police one Radha Vadhera had filed nomination for the Sarpanch election on Friday evening. The returning officer had reportedly told Dharmilal, the candidate’s husband that since the nomination papers were incomplete there were chances of its rejection. This had annoyed Dharmilal who had warned the officers to face consequences if his wife’s papers were rejected. Although it couldn’t be established that Dharmilal was responsible for the blast, but police is looking out for him. According to sources, ex-sarpanch Radha devi’s husband Bhimraj Vadhera too had reported possibility of violence in the polls few days ago and upon the complaint, the police had warned few people in this connection, however, the Friday blast came as a shock for the entire tehsil since Jhadol, the remote tribal dominant area had always reported the highest polling percentage in every election.
