Udaipur : The remains of what is thought to be an ancient temple and  colony have been found on a mound near Moola ji Mata temple at Kapasan town in Chittorgarh.  The discovery was made when an official of the Nagar Palika happened to visit the temple. He was informed by the residents of remains seen on the mound thus suggesting a possibility of some ancient civilization unearthed.

Taking the clue the officer Sohanlal ordered excavation at the site some days back and what came out has stunned everyone. Pillars, pieces of earthen pots,  brick walls , broken pieces of stone structures were discovered from the site.  One of the pillar had carvings on it at the bottom and the podium like structure suggested there would have been a temple at the spot decades back.

“ Our curator Himanshu Singh visited the site upon getting information. Prima facie the ruins seem to be of a temple structure, civilization would also have thrived there as indicated by things seen there” said Mubarik Hussain, the Superintendent of Archeology and Museums, Udaipur division.  The excavation was done by JCB machine which is said to have caused harm to few of the stone structures, hence digging work  was called off immediately.

The officials of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at Jodhpur were informed by the district administration and a team would arrive on the spot to investigate further, Hussain said. If the discovery is found to be of some national importance, ASI would take up the project or else the state department would do the needful, he added.
